Neuromuscular Therapy Workshops
A workshop series with Darren Cadwell, LMBT
Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) is a clinical approach to massage therapy that targets the skeletal muscles and nervous system to address pain, injuries, and functional disorders. This hands-on workshop series, led by experienced instructor Darren Cadwell, explores a range of specialized techniques designed to restore function, reduce pain, and promote healing for clients dealing with chronic conditions and musculoskeletal injuries.
In this series, participants will delve into a variety of NMT techniques, including:
-
Fascial Techniques: Focusing on the connective tissue surrounding muscles to release tension and improve range of motion.
-
Trigger Point Therapy: A highly effective method for identifying and affecting points within the tissues that refer pain to other areas of the body.
-
Stretching and Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF): Using assisted stretching to increase flexibility and mobility while also enhancing muscle strength and coordination.
-
Muscle Energy Techniques (MET): Employing active muscle contractions to improve flexibility and joint range of motion through patient-controlled positioning.
-
Classical Massage Techniques: Integrating traditional methods to promote relaxation and circulation, working synergistically with the specialized techniques to enhance recovery.
Neuromuscular Therapy addresses the root causes of chronic pain, rather than just masking the symptoms, by restoring balance and alignment to the body’s soft tissue structures. This approach is effective for managing conditions such as myofascial pain syndrome, sciatica, headaches, TMJ dysfunction, and sports injuries, among others.
By attending this workshop series or any of our individual NMT workshops, students will gain a deeper understanding of how to use NMT in a clinical setting, as well as learn practical skills they can apply immediately to support their clients in managing pain and achieving long-term recovery.
Whether you're new to Neuromuscular Therapy or looking to refine your skills, this workshop series offers valuable insights and hands-on experience to help you enhance your practice and offer more effective care to your clients.

Saturday & Sunday, July 19 & 20, 2025 REGISTER NOW
Course Description:
This advanced hands-on workshop offers massage therapists a clinical approach to assessing and treating common sources of head and neck pain using the principles and practices of Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT). Drawing on the foundational work of pioneers such as Boris Chaitow, Leon Chaitow, Dr. Janet Travell, Dr. David Simons, and Dr. Vladimir Janda, this course integrates soft tissue and neurophysiological strategies to address the underlying causes of chronic pain and dysfunction.
Participants will learn to identify and treat neuromuscular imbalances and myofascial trigger points in key musculature including the trapezius, levator scapulae, scalenes, sternocleidomastoid (SCM), suboccipitals, and deep cervical stabilizers.
Therapists will develop refined palpation and assessment skills, understand the neurological underpinnings of pain, and practice integrative treatment strategies that can be immediately applied in a clinical setting. Special emphasis will be placed on understanding cervicogenic headaches, forward head posture, TMJ-related dysfunction, and the compensatory patterns that often accompany chronic neck tension.
This workshop is ideal for massage therapists seeking to deepen their therapeutic effectiveness with clients experiencing chronic head and neck issues, while expanding their clinical knowledge base through evidence-informed practices grounded in the work of some of the field’s most respected figures.
NMT for Treating Sciatic Pain

Instructor: Darren Cadwell, LMBT
Price: $300
Dates:
Saturday & Sunday, August 9 & 10, 2025 REGISTER NOW
Course Description:
This focused clinical workshop explores the Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) approach to assessing and treating sciatic pain, one of the most common and debilitating complaints seen in massage practice. Drawing on the influential work of Boris and Leon Chaitow, Dr. Janet Travell, Dr. David Simons, and Dr. Vladimir Janda, this course provides a comprehensive toolkit for identifying soft-tissue sources of sciatic pain and addressing them with precision.
Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the musculature that commonly contributes to sciatic pain patterns, including the piriformis, gluteus maximus and medius, deep lateral rotators, hamstrings, quadratus lumborum, and lumbar paraspinals.
NMT for Treating Plantar Fasciitis, Foot & Ankle Pain
12-Hour NCBTMB-Approved Workshop
Instructor: Darren Cadwell, LMBT
Price: $300
Dates:
Saturday & Sunday, August 30 & 31, 2025 REGISTER NOW
Course Description
This clinically focused workshop offers massage therapists practical, evidence-informed tools for addressing chronic ankle and foot pain, including plantar fasciitis. Building on the foundational work of leaders in the field—Boris and Leon Chaitow, Dr. Janet Travell, Dr. David Simons, and Dr. Vladimir Janda—this Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) course teaches an integrated approach to soft-tissue dysfunction and movement restriction in the lower extremity.
Participants will assess and treat key muscular and fascial contributors to foot and ankle pain, such as the gastrocnemius, soleus, tibialis posterior and anterior, peroneals, flexor digitorum longus, quadratus plantae, and intrinsic foot muscles. Special attention will be given to the plantar fascia and its relationship to postural imbalance and kinetic chain dysfunction.
NMT for Treating Rotator Cuff Injuries
12-Hour NCBTMB-Approved Workshop
Instructor: Darren Cadwell, LMBT
Price: $300
Dates:
Saturday & Sunday, October 11 & 12, 2025 REGISTER NOW
Course Description:
This in-depth, hands-on workshop equips massage therapists with clinical strategies to assess and treat rotator cuff injuries and related shoulder dysfunction using the principles of Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT). Drawing from the foundational work of Boris and Leon Chaitow, Dr. Janet Travell, Dr. David Simons, and Dr. Vladimir Janda, this course blends soft-tissue techniques with functional assessment to address the root causes of shoulder pain and mobility limitations.
Participants will explore the anatomy and biomechanics of the rotator cuff—supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor, and subscapularis—as well as surrounding muscles that influence shoulder health, including the deltoid, biceps brachii, pectoralis major/minor, trapezius, serratus anterior, and rhomboids.
This workshop will address a range of conditions related to rotator cuff dysfunction, including tendonitis, impingement syndrome, frozen shoulder, and postural imbalances related to overuse or injury. Therapists will also learn strategies for working with clients pre- and post-surgery, or those seeking alternatives to invasive treatment.
Ideal for massage therapists seeking to improve their orthopedic and clinical effectiveness, this workshop delivers practical, evidence-informed techniques to help clients reduce pain, increase range of motion, and restore balanced, functional movement in the shoulder complex.
