Course Description:
As practitioners we know that chronic emotional tension can lead to chronic physical pain that keeps returning, even after expert bodywork. Since all emotions result from nervous system “messages”: from the brain, vagus nerve, heart and more, they produce postures and holding patterns that can create and exacerbate pain. We will explore the postural attitudes of difficult emotions, how injury and trauma create and sustain protective habits, and learn strategies for using movement intelligence to empower clients’ ability to regulate and improve both physical and emotional fluency. This workshop will include Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement® lessons and exercises from Kinēsa® and The Emotional Body®,
Participants will:
Identify the six primal “emotional effector” patterns
Learn movement strategies for reducing chronic tension
Discover the link between breath and emotion
Improve their ability to recognize emotional distress in a client’s posture
Practice emotional regulation techniques for calming the nervous system
Explore the connection between body chemistry and emotional expression

Course Description:
TMJ dysfunction, chronic shoulder and neck pain, unconscious gripping in the feet and ankles that cause problems with knees and hips, are some of the challenging holding patterns that recur in clients and can be a source of frustration and even cause related struggles.
The Feldenkrais Method® offers learning strategies that use the intelligence of the nervous system to help clients develop new, more functional habits for pain relief, easier movement and reduced stress.
This workshop will explore how Awareness Through Movement® lessons can offer pain relief options for both clients and practitioners. You will experience movement sequences that can inform hands on practice, with a focus on chronic tension areas: jaw, shoulder/neck, low back, ankles and feet. The integration process will include inquiry, dialog and one on one practice. Learning through movement offers insight into experiential anatomy, which can then be directly applied to work with clients.
